at a roadside puddle
going back and forth
ravens drinkingoff a ways on the side of the road while sitting in traffic on South Tongass Highway several ravens were cautiously hopping over to a rain puddle to get a drink. they never did find the courage to drink.
Haiku is one of the most important forms of traditional japanese poetry. Literally means "starting verse", and was the first starting link of a much longer chain of verses known as haika. Because the haiku set the tone for the rest of the poetic chain, it enjoyed a privileged position in haiku poetry, and it was not uncommon for a poet to compose a haiku by itself without following up with the rest of the chain.

while driving into town we found ourselves pulling over on the side of the road like so many others this morning to watch a pod of ocra whales swimming by.

dandelions cling
the state has been cleaning out the ditches along the highway all week long. at a stop sign I notice a backhoe parked with dandelions hanging from it's bucket.

parking lot
out at night
across the parking lot
the buoy flashes
found myself sitting in the parking lot on a rainy night thinking about life. out of the dark night the flash of buoy lights on the water reminds me to head home.

cedars
from a woodsman saw
wooden snowflakes
rest upon us allthe whine of the chainsaw is still upon my ears as I write this. spent pass two days helping a friend remove a hundred foot red cedar from her property. the old tree was leaning over her cabin threating to destory it one day. i couldn't help but think that the retired woodsman hired to retire this old cedar seemingly were bound together giving each a purposeful life. as the sawdust drifted down upon us I could help but realized their fate was our fate.
